What does powder coating cost in Alberta?
It depends on the job. There are too many variables for a price list, so every job gets its own estimate. Here is what moves the price, and what to send for a fast quote.
What moves the price
Size
Bigger parts use more powder and take more booth and oven space.
Condition and prep
Clean new steel is quick. Rust, mill scale and old coatings take blasting time.
Stock or custom colour
We stock over 100 colours. A special order means buying powder for your job.
What you do first
Sharp edges relieved and welds free of pinholes before drop-off save rework. See prepare your parts.
Quantity
Fifty of the same part cost less each than one.
Number of coats
Primer and clear each add a pass through the booth and the oven.
Three coating systems, side by side
Each extra coat adds a pass through the booth and the oven. We offer primers, including zinc rich primer, and clear coats.
| System | Best for |
|---|---|
| One coat | Indoor parts and most everyday jobs |
| Primer and top coat | Parts that live outdoors or see road salt |
| Primer, top coat and clear | Extra depth and protection |
Powder or paint?
Powder is baked on at 200°C, so the part has to fit in an oven and survive the heat. For steel and aluminum parts that do, it gives a hard, even finish in one visit.
Paint is the right call when a part cannot take oven heat, will not fit in a 32 foot oven, or has to be finished on site. We will tell you if that is your job.
How to get an estimate
- A photo of the whole part, and one close up of the surface
- Rough dimensions, and weight if it is heavy
- Steel or aluminum. A magnet sticks to steel
- How many, and the colour you have in mind
- When you need it
Price questions
Do custom colours cost more?
Usually, because powder is ordered for your job. We keep over 100 colours in stock to avoid that where we can.
Is it cheaper if I strip the parts myself?
Every job is different, so the best way to get a number is the quote form or a call.
